14 more closures cleared, one back on the map — the closure-flag inbox is almost empty

Spent the afternoon working through the last big batch of places that had a closure flag but hadn't been verified yet — some were year-old signals, some had one iffy source, some were address-move situations where the brand relocated. We hand-checked each one against two independent sources. Fourteen turned out to actually be closed and came off the map. One (Laredo DC Mexican in Washington) turned out to be fully open — the earlier flag was because the site was briefly down; it's back up and OpenTable takes reservations. Three stayed flagged for another look because we couldn't clear the two-source bar. The rest of the queue got tidied up too — a handful of pre-opening venues and off-season Chesapeake waterfront spots moved out of the closure column into their own better-fitting categories.

  • Closed for good (14): Ruby Tuesday Gaithersburg (last MoCo Ruby Tuesday), Ruby Tuesday Wheaton, Red Robin at Francis Scott Key Mall Frederick (May 2026), Hooters Towson on Joppa Road, BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse Towson (Aug 2024), Carrabba's Centreville VA, Bayou Girl Drink Factory in La Plata (abandoned lease), Teavolve Cafe in Baltimore's Harbor East (after two decades), Pike Cornerstone on Arlington's Columbia Pike (May 2026), plus Jongro BBQ Wheaton (already announced earlier). Two brand relocations: Casa Carmen Wines moved from Chestertown MD to West Grove PA, and Baked on the River moved from Port Deposit MD to Guerneville CA. Two identity clean-ups: the old Olive Garden North Bethesda address is Seasons 52 and Pizza Boli's now, and the old Lahinch Tavern spot at 7747 Tuckerman in Potomac is now The Grove.
  • Back on the map (1): Laredo DC Mexican Restaurant in Washington — website is live, reservations open on OpenTable, everything checks out
  • Still flagged for another look (3): Chili's Glen Burnie is missing from the chain's own list but no local news confirms closure, TGI Fridays Silver Spring shows 'coming soon' on the corporate locator while local reports say the branch stayed open, and Zorba's Bar & Grill in Baltimore looks open on Facebook but we only found one solid source
  • Behind-the-scenes cleanup: 3 Eastern Shore waterfront venues (Capsize, Robert Morris Inn, Tilghman Island Inn) moved from 'closure conflict' to 'seasonal' where they belong, 3 pre-opening venues cleared out of the queue until they actually open, plus 10 older queue notes that had been sitting stale got closed out

Big cleanup: 58 spots got their green badge, 8 closed for good, and one changed its name

Spent the evening working through a stack of venues where we weren't sure if they were still open — some had sketchy websites, some had a single 'closed' tag on Yelp, some had corporate pages saying 'coming soon'. We hand-checked all of them with two independent sources each. Good news: most were still open, just had a dead-domain or a stale Yelp listing throwing us off. Bad news: eight had actually closed for good and we missed them until now. One venue in Purcellville, Velocity Wings, isn't gone — the owner rebranded it to Velocity Bar + Kitchen (same address, same team, new name). We also finally locked in the happy-hour times at seven more places we'd only known the basics about. Total damage: 8 venues off the map, 58 promoted to fully-verified, 7 with proper schedules for the first time.

  • Closed for good (8): Bar Pilar in DC (closed Jan 2026 after 20+ years), Lost Dog Cafe on Columbia Pike in Arlington (only that branch — other Lost Dogs still open), Carrabba's in Manassas, Applebee's in Woodbridge, Nipsey's / Cheers at 301 in District Heights (old location, brand relocating), Soul in Annapolis (closed back in 2022 — never caught it), Olive Grove in Linthicum (closed Mother's Day 2026), Buffalo Wild Wings in Germantown (now Sisters Sandwiches & Such at the same address)
  • Rebrand caught: Velocity Wings in Purcellville is now Velocity Bar + Kitchen (Thompson Restaurants brand refresh, same building)
  • 58 spots promoted to fully-verified green badge across DC, MoCo, NoVA, PG, Frederick, Annapolis, Baltimore, Eastern Shore
  • 7 new happy-hour schedules locked in: El Chucho in Columbia Heights (4-6pm M-F), Brew Birds in Aldie (3-6pm), Hamilton Station Gastropub (4-7pm M-Th), Harvest Gap Brewery in Hillsboro (4-7pm Thursday), 1836 Kitchen and Taproom in Lovettsville (4-7pm M-F), Rodeo's Mexican Grill in Lovettsville (3-6pm M-F), Los Toltecos in South Riding (3-7pm M-Th)
  • Five stayed flagged for another look: Right Proper Brewpub Eckington is coming later in 2026, TGI Fridays Silver Spring corporate says coming-soon but locals say open, Chili's Glen Burnie is missing from the chain's own list, Zorba's Bar & Grill in Baltimore looks open but we only found one solid source, and Capsize on the Oxford waterfront is seasonal (open in the warm months)

Another 24 happy hours locked in across the DMV — plus two more closures cleared

Took one more pass at the spots that have been on the map for a while but were missing the actual happy-hour times. Hunted for the schedule on every venue's own website, social, and the usual local food pages — found and locked in real times for 24 more places spread across PG County, Montgomery County, Frederick, Howard County, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Loudoun. A couple of standouts: Duke's Grocery in Potomac (Mon-Fri noon-6pm, $5-6 beers + $7-9 cocktails), Bethesda Blues & Jazz (Sun brunch 10-2 plus M-F 4-7), Cuba de Ayer in Burtonsville (4-7pm daily plus all-day Sundays), River Hill Grill in Clarksville (M-F 3-6, $10 happy-hour food), and Andy's Pizza Old Town Alexandria (M-Th 3-6). Two more came off the map for good after we double-checked: Jongro BBQ in Wheaton (closed last August after a brand change, confirmed by local news) and Pop-Up District in Falls Church (their domain is for sale, site's gone). Eight others got flagged for a closer look where sources disagree — including Red Shedman in Mt Airy, which isn't gone, just rebuilding (new brewery coming, operating temporarily at Linganore).

  • 24 new green-badge upgrades across PG (3), MoCo (10), Frederick (2), HoCo (3), Arlington (2), Alexandria (1), Fulton (1), and a few more
  • Closed for good (2): Jongro BBQ Wheaton (closed Aug 2025 after rebranding to Inju) and Pop-Up District Falls Church (domain abandoned)
  • Flagged for a second look (8): the two Silver Diners' own pages disagreed with corporate on whether they do happy hour, BWW Kensington is pickup-only so the corporate window doesn't apply, Bobby McKey's Friday-only mention conflicts with the regular schedule, plus a few NoVA spots with conflicting time language. Red Shedman Mt Airy stays as-is — it's pre-opening at a new building, not closed
  • 2,652 happy hours now showing across DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware

Beach week: filled in the Delaware coast and the Maryland Eastern Shore

Spending the week at the beach in Bethany and using the time to do something we've been putting off — fill in the spots we'd been missing along the Delaware coast and across the Maryland Eastern Shore. We added 218 new bars and restaurants: 76 down the Delaware beach corridor from Lewes to Fenwick (plus a couple new pockets at Indian River Inlet and Frankford), and 142 across the rest of the Shore — Cecil and Caroline counties up north, the Kent and Queen Anne's waterfronts, Cambridge and Easton, all the way down through Salisbury, Crisfield, Princess Anne, and out to Smith Island. Stopping by Dockside Marina Bar & Grill at Indian River Inlet this Wednesday to confirm their happy-hour times in person — straight-from-the-source updates coming after.

  • Delaware coast (Bethany, Rehoboth, Lewes, Dewey, Fenwick, Ocean View, Selbyville, Millville, plus new buckets at Indian River Inlet and Frankford): +76 spots, now 147 total
  • Maryland Eastern Shore (Cecil, Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset): +142 spots, now 239 total
  • Brand-new map coverage for: Cecil County (Elkton, North East, Chesapeake City, Charlestown, Port Deposit, Perryville, Rising Sun, Conowingo), Caroline County (Denton, Greensboro, Federalsburg, Preston), Somerset County (Princess Anne, Crisfield, Smith Island, Westover), plus Ocean Pines, Chester, Stevensville, and a dozen small towns
  • Map pins are live for 131 of the new spots — the other 11 are tucked-away addresses (Smith Island, private marinas, a few rural routes) we'll plot by hand later
  • One spot flagged for a closer look: UnWined on the Water in Cecil County — we're calling them to confirm before we make any changes
  • Bug squash bonus: a few chain restaurants with multiple locations were sharing one page by mistake — clicking Bethany Blues, Adam's Taphouse, Vida Taco Bar, Blackwall Hitch and a dozen others would throw an error. All 16 are now split into their own pages
  • Came home and started pulling actual happy-hour schedules for the new spots — two rounds in, we've got real times locked in for 106 of them (Hooters OC Mon-Fri 3-6, Red Lobster Salisbury Mon-Fri 3-6, Pancho & Lefty's WOC Fri-Sat 12-7, Mickey's Family Crab House Bethany 4-6 with $1 off bottles + $1.25 wings + $1.50 oysters, Rusty Cup Bar Bethany daily 12-6 with $2 Natty Lights, Rusty Rudder Dewey Mon-Fri 3-6, Dogfish Chesapeake & Maine Reho Mon-Fri 4-5 with $1 oysters, Diego's Bar Reho Tue-Fri 5-7, Victoria's Reho Mon-Fri 3-6 with $10 martinis, Irish Eyes Lewes Mon-Fri 3-6, Above the Dunes Reho daily 1-5, Buffalo Wild Wings Reho Mon-Fri 3-6, Saketumi Reho daily 4-6, Taco Reho Mon-Fri 2-6, Big Chill Beach Club Indian River Inlet Mon-Fri 4-7, Coastal Kitchen at Bear Trap Dunes Tue-Fri 4-6, Don's Seafood Ocean Pines daily 3-5 with BOGO drinks + $1 oysters, Westover Pit & Pub daily 2-5, Mamma Mia Centreville 3-7, Big Mack's Tilghman daily 12-5 with $6 crushes, Banks' Seafood Wilmington Wed 4-6, and more). The rest don't publish happy-hour times publicly — but we tried every angle
  • Heads up on one: the Kentmorr Beach Bar & Grill on Kent Island appears to have rebranded as Channel Side Kentmorr — we'll verify and update soon
  • Beach trip not wasted

We just gave Maryland's happy hours a top-to-bottom once-over

We went bar by bar through Baltimore and its suburbs, Annapolis, Glen Burnie, the Severna Park and Pasadena waterfronts, and out across the Eastern Shore — Ocean City, Berlin, Salisbury, Easton, St. Michaels, Cambridge — chasing down the actual happy-hour times for spots that were on the map but didn't show a schedule yet. About 150 of them now list real happy-hour hours. We also caught a handful that have closed for good and cleared them off the map, so what you see is what's actually pouring. The two trickiest things on the Shore — seasonal spots that look shut in the off-season, and a couple of favorites that turned out to be genuinely gone — we sorted out one by one.

  • Added real happy-hour times for about 150 Maryland spots that were missing them
  • Closed for good and pulled off the map: the Olive Garden in Owings Mills, the Grill at Harryman House in Reisterstown (a 39-year Baltimore favorite), The Lodge in Pasadena, Illusions in Glen Burnie, and the restaurants at the historic Robert Morris Inn and Tilghman Island Inn on the Eastern Shore
  • Left on the map but flagged for a second look: a few seasonal Eastern Shore spots (Capsize and Pope's Tavern in Oxford) that are just closed for the off-season, and Olive Grove in Linthicum, which looked shut online but is still open
  • Maryland happy-hour coverage jumped from about half our spots to two-thirds showing real hours

And now DC — the last big piece — got the full once-over

Right after the metro-wide sweep, we finished the job in DC. Went bar by bar through every DC spot still wearing the yellow 'medium confidence' tag — Dupont, 14th Street, U Street, Logan Circle, H Street, Capitol Hill, Penn Quarter, Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, Petworth, Georgetown, the Wharf, Anacostia, and up Connecticut Avenue. 251 of them found a second source confirming the details and flipped to the green badge, taking DC from 44% confirmed to 90%. Three came off the map for good. And one we kept on after a closer look: Bar Pilar on 14th got tagged closed by an aggregator, but the bar's own site shows current hours and a live reservation page — still pouring. With this, the whole region is in the best shape it's ever been.

  • DC: 251 spots upgraded to the green badge — 44% confirmed to 90%
  • Closed for good (3): District Chophouse (Penn Quarter, after ~25 years), Sandlot (Anacostia), and Ellington Park Bistro (the Dupont hotel restaurant is now Bully Spanish Steakhouse)
  • Kept on after a closer look: Bar Pilar on 14th — an aggregator said closed, but the bar's own site shows current hours and reservations, so it stays
  • Not yet on the map: Right Proper's Eckington brewpub isn't open yet (coming 2026) — we'll add it when they pour
  • Where the whole region stands now: Maryland 93%, Virginia 87%, Delaware 98%, DC 90% confirmed.

We just double-checked over 1,100 happy hours

Spent the week going bar by bar across almost the whole map — confirming who's still pouring and exactly when. Baltimore and its suburbs, every Montgomery, Prince George's, Howard, Anne Arundel, Charles, and Frederick County town, the Eastern Shore and Ocean City, the Delaware beaches plus Wilmington and Dover, Arlington and the outer Northern Virginia suburbs, and down to Richmond. More than 1,100 spots got a second source confirming them and now show the green 'high confidence' badge. We freshened up the happy hour times wherever places publish them, and said goodbye to 17 spots that have closed for good — so you won't drive out to a locked door. A bunch more got flagged for a closer look where the website was acting up or two sources disagreed on the hours; those stay on the map with the older badge while we sort it out.

  • Maryland is now 93% confirmed — Baltimore City and County, Montgomery, Prince George's, Howard, Anne Arundel, Charles, Frederick, and the Eastern Shore from Ocean City to St. Michaels
  • Virginia up to 87% — Arlington, the Fairfax / Prince William / Loudoun suburbs, plus the Richmond metro, Charlottesville, and Fredericksburg
  • Delaware 98% — the beaches plus Wilmington, Newark, and Dover
  • Closed for good and pulled off the map (17), including BJ's and Hooters in Towson, Pike Cornerstone in Arlington, Le Fantôme food hall in Riverdale Park, the Crazy Tuna in Essex, and Bollywood Masala (which moved from La Plata to Waldorf)
  • Careful with the seasonal spots: a few Eastern Shore waterfront places (Capsize, Pope's Tavern, the Tilghman Island Inn's restaurant) looked shut but it's seasonal or a renovation — we left those on the map and flagged them instead of pulling them
  • Next up: DC is the last big chunk left to give the same treatment.

Northern Virginia just got a fresh double-check — 178 spots now show the green badge

Spent the evening going through every Northern Virginia spot that was on the map with a yellow 'medium confidence' tag — Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Tysons, Vienna, McLean, Reston, Herndon, Chantilly, Springfield, Burke, Ashburn, Sterling, Leesburg, Loudoun wine country, and more. For each one we found a second source confirming the happy hour details. 178 of them now show the green 'high confidence' badge instead of the yellow one. Two we found are actually closed (Carrabba's in Centreville and Sea Pearl in Falls Church) so those came off the map. A handful had sources disagreeing on the hours — those stay on the map with the older badge while we sort out which time is right.

  • Arlington: 5 spots upgraded (Bayou Bakery, Big Tony's, Pike Cornerstone, and others)
  • Alexandria + Falls Church + Mt Vernon: 23 spots upgraded — also pulled Sea Pearl Falls Church off the map (closed)
  • Inner Fairfax (Fairfax City, Vienna, McLean, Tysons): 34 spots upgraded — Alta Strada Mosaic, Colada Shop, J. Gilbert's, Urbano, and more
  • Dulles corridor (Reston, Herndon, Chantilly, Centreville, Great Falls, Oakton, Clifton): 40 spots upgraded — also pulled Carrabba's Centreville (closed permanently)
  • South Fairfax + Loudoun east (Springfield, Burke, Annandale, Lorton, Ashburn, Sterling): 50 spots upgraded — Glory Days locations got their all-day happy hour times fixed; matchbox One Loudoun, Ms. Peach's, Sense of Thai, Ted's Bulletin Ashburn all cleaned up
  • Loudoun west + wine country (Leesburg, Purcellville, Middleburg, Round Hill, Hamilton, Lovettsville, Aldie, Brambleton, Lansdowne, South Riding): 26 spots upgraded — Firebirds Leesburg, King Street Oyster Bar, SideBar, Travinia
  • 27 venues flagged for closer look: 18 where sources disagreed on the exact happy hour times, 9 where the website went dark but we couldn't get a second confirmation that the spot closed
  • Northern Virginia is now solidly past 60% verified. Next up: same treatment for DC, the biggest single chunk left.

DC just got a lot deeper — 105 new bars and restaurants added tonight

Tonight closed a real gap. DC had been undercounted in a bunch of neighborhoods — Capitol Hill, H Street, Columbia Heights, Chinatown, the upper Connecticut and Wisconsin corridors, and the east-of-the-river neighborhoods we'd never really mapped before. So we did a deep sweep across 10 neighborhoods plus the steakhouse chains that opened DC locations we'd missed. 105 new spots are now on the map.

  • Capitol Hill + Barracks Row + Eastern Market: 20 new (Bumblebirds, Butterworth's, Los Caballeros, The Duck & The Peach, Lobby Bar, Hill East Burger, and more)
  • H Street NE + Atlas District: 19 new (Cane, Tapori, The Haymaker, Open Crumb, Henceforth, Focus Social Club, and more)
  • Columbia Heights + 14th NW north: 11 new — heavy on the Latin American restaurants (Mezcalero, El Jardin, Tequila & Mezcal, Tamashaa, Toro Bar)
  • Chinatown + Mount Vernon Triangle: 8 new (Truluck's, Mandu, Kache, La Betty, Over Under Rooftop, and the Bobby Van's pair)
  • Mount Pleasant + Adams Morgan east: 9 new (Martha Dear, Mola, Suns Cinema, Joia Burger, Namak, Easy Tiger Tavern)
  • Upper Connecticut + Wisconsin: 12 new across Cleveland Park, Tenleytown, Friendship Heights (Sababa, Spices, Wheelhouse Chevy Chase, Skip's on the Avenue)
  • Bloomingdale + LeDroit + Eckington: 5 new (The Red Hen, Aroi Thai, Etabli)
  • Petworth corridor: 10 new (Toro Bar, Pantry Thai, Timber Pizza Petworth, Seta Oasis, Deset Ethiopian, Midlands Beer Garden)
  • East of the river — first time on the map: 2 (Go-Go Museum Cafe & Bar in Historic Anacostia, The Whiskey Bar Anacostia)
  • National steakhouse chains we'd missed in DC: Morton's, Mastro's, STK, Del Frisco's, Bobby Van's (x2), Truluck's, Fogo de Chão (Penn Quarter + The Wharf), McCormick & Schmick's, plus Bluestone Lane Logan Circle
  • Two we held back from publishing: Laredo DC Mexican (their website is dark) and Gold Clover Bar in LeDroit (site goes to a parking page). Both flagged for follow-up before they go live.
  • DC total: 459 → 564 venues. DMV total: 2,478.

Big map expansion — Maryland past the bar, Virginia hardened, Delaware doubled

Tonight closed out a coverage push that's been months in the works. Maryland is now solidly past the threshold where the whole state feels trustworthy to recommend. Virginia got hardened up to 96%. And Delaware doubled in size — we'd only been covering the beaches before tonight; now Wilmington and Dover are on the map too.

  • Maryland: Baltimore City + Eastern Shore (Ocean City, St. Michaels, Easton, Salisbury, Cambridge) + Baltimore-collar (Towson, Glen Burnie, Catonsville, Timonium, Severna Park, Perry Hall, Pasadena) all stepped up tonight.
  • Virginia: Richmond and Charlottesville cleaned up across the city and the western metro (Henrico, Glen Allen, Midlothian, Chesterfield, Mechanicsville, Ashland, Crozet). Hampton Roads picked up too — Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Williamsburg, Hampton, Suffolk.
  • Delaware opened beyond Sussex County for the first time. New Castle County now has Wilmington, Newark, Bear, Hockessin, Greenville, and Middletown. Kent County now has Dover, Smyrna, and Milford. The Sussex beaches (Rehoboth, Lewes, Bethany, Dewey, Fenwick, Ocean View) also got their map pins finished tonight.
  • Where we stand: DC is fully verified. Virginia 96%. Maryland past 82%. Delaware coverage tripled. The whole region is 98.5% map-ready.
  • Still working on a handful in Baltimore where websites went dark and the new Delaware spots that don't have happy hour times published yet. Those are next.

Tonight's cleanup: 13 happy hours rewritten + 46 phone numbers filled in

Long maintenance night across the metro. Rewrote 13 venues' happy hour times because the old descriptions were garbled — Lulu's Wine Garden, Salazar, Sudhouse, Dog Haus Bethesda, Dave & Buster's Gaithersburg, Earls Tysons, The Palm Tysons, and a few others now read in clean English again. Filled in phone numbers for 40 venues that were missing them and websites for 6 more. Found 3 Baltimore spots that share buildings — Hotel Ulysses has Ash-Bar + Bloom's + The Coral Wig under one roof, Johnny's Roland Park sits below Petit Louis at 4800 Roland Ave, and Rude BBQ + La Bodega are two concepts in the same Easton building. Map pins for those will cluster correctly now. Added Mission BBQ in Germantown — it took over the old Ruby Tuesday space at 19800 Century Blvd back in 2020 and somehow we never had it listed. And reactivated 3 places that were wrongly marked closed: Stained Glass Pub in Glenmont (open since 1973), La Casita Pupuseria in Silver Spring, and Capital Grille in Chevy Chase. The Stained Glass one was embarrassing — 50+ years in business.

  • Rewritten happy hour times (13 venues): Lulu's Wine Garden (DC), Opaline (DC), Salazar (DC), Sudhouse (DC), Carrol's Creek Cafe (Annapolis), Julep + Tsunami (Annapolis), Caddies on Cordell (Bethesda), Dog Haus Biergarten (Bethesda), Beers & Cheers Too (Gaithersburg), Charley Chesapeake Chophouse (Gaithersburg), Dave & Buster's Gaithersburg, Silver Diner Woodmore (Lanham), Kumbia (Rockville), Firepan Korean BBQ (Silver Spring), Earls Kitchen Tysons, Ometeo (Tysons), The Palm Tysons, Chili's Dulles Town Crossing — plus FINS Bethany Beach (DE)
  • Phone numbers added (40 venues across DC + Maryland + Virginia) and websites added (6 venues including Songbyrd Music House in DC, Juleps Kentucky Tavern in Ashburn, Anchor Bar in Leesburg, Rebellion Bourbon Bar in Leesburg, Taco Bamba Sterling, Bungalow Lakehouse Sterling). Eight venues also got their map coordinates fixed.
  • Shared-building neighbors map fix (3 clusters): Hotel Ulysses Baltimore (Ash-Bar, Bloom's, The Coral Wig — all inside the hotel), 4800 Roland Ave Baltimore (Johnny's downstairs / Petit Louis upstairs — same building, same owner), 216 E Dover St Easton (Rude BBQ and La Bodega / Rude Bodega — two suites in the Rude Food Co building). Map pins now cluster correctly.
  • New venue: MISSION BBQ Germantown at 19800 Century Blvd — operating since January 2020 in the former Ruby Tuesday space. We had Ruby Tuesday correctly marked closed but never added the successor. Now on the map.
  • Reactivated (3 venues wrongly marked closed): Stained Glass Pub in Glenmont (Wheaton area, been open since 1973 — apologies for the false closure), La Casita Pupuseria & Market in Silver Spring (still serving — we had a bad flag from earlier), Capital Grille in Chevy Chase (still open at Wisconsin Place — the inactive flag was about their happy hour program, not the restaurant).
  • 9 other address-sharing pairs were correctly NOT grouped: RIO Lakefront Gaithersburg, Rockville Town Square, Short Pump Town Center Richmond, and a few NoVA office-tower clusters — those are neighbors, not co-located peers, and we don't pretend otherwise on the map.

Pages should load a touch quicker, especially on phone data and especially if you're checking from outside the DMV. If anything looks broken, tell me on the message board and I'll fix it.

  • Same site, same address — nothing you bookmarked changes
  • Pages should load a little faster, especially on mobile

Prince William just got a big cleanup — 34 venues verified

Spent the afternoon on Prince William County, which had the biggest pile of unverified venues left in the metro. Confirmed 34 of them — phone numbers, websites, the works — across Manassas, Manassas Park, Woodbridge, and Lake Ridge. Old Towne Sports Pub, Battle Street Bistro, Brittany's, Firebirds Woodbridge, Cheesecake Factory at Potomac Mills, plus the chains. Three of them also gave us their real happy hour windows: Water's End Brewery in Lake Ridge, CJ Finz Raw Bar in Manassas, and Brittany's Sports Bar in Woodbridge. Picked up a few more in Fairfax too — Cafe Tatti in McLean has a clean Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:30 happy hour with $8 wines, $7 beer, and small plates. Backyard Grill in Chantilly runs all day plus a weekday evening window. Flagged four chains for closure checks (Applebee's at Noblewood Plaza, both Buffalo Wild Wings in Manassas and Woodbridge, Carmello's in Old Town Manassas) — their corporate pages went dark but other signals say they're still open. Going to verify before doing anything.

  • Prince William: 34 venues verified across Manassas (15), Manassas Park (2), Woodbridge (15), Lake Ridge (2). PW jumps from 42% verified to 89% verified.
  • Happy hour text added: Water's End Brewery Lake Ridge (weekday growler discount before 5pm), CJ Finz Manassas (Thursdays 4-9pm $4 Virginia drafts), Brittany's Woodbridge (Mondays after 5pm half-price burgers)
  • Fairfax additions: Cafe Tatti McLean (Mon-Thu 3:30-5:30PM, $8 wines, $7 beer, $8 small plates), Backyard Grill Chantilly (daily 3-7pm plus weekday 4-7pm)
  • DC small win: Beau Thai in Mount Pleasant added drink prices ($5 drafts, $7 wines, $8 rails). Entitlement Lounge in Petworth confirmed open and verified.
  • Four chain closure flags need checking: Applebee's at Noblewood Plaza (Woodbridge), Buffalo Wild Wings Manassas + Woodbridge, Carmello's Old Town Manassas. Corporate pages went dark but Yelp + maps say still open. Calling them before doing anything.
  • Loudoun pass came back mostly empty. The remaining unfilled venues there are breweries, tasting rooms, and small ethnic restaurants that genuinely don't publish a formal happy hour schedule. We'll keep our eyes open but won't force it.

Six places closed, two are still open, and we have a new Instagram

Morning cleanup. We confirmed six places closed for good and pulled them off the map, kept two we'd flagged because they turned out to be just fine, and put a hold on a brewery that hasn't opened yet. We never delete a venue based on one signal — always two independent confirmations — so this took a few hours of checking. Also: Meta deleted our Instagram this morning out of nowhere — no warning, no way to appeal. The new account is up at @rustyshappyhour. Help us rebuild?

  • Off the map: Reliable Tavern (Park View, DC) closed summer 2024. Sprig and Sprout (Glover Park, DC) closed July 2025 after 13 years. Wicked Bloom (Truxton Circle, DC) closed back in 2021. On The Border (Elkridge, MD) closed this March. Old Bowie Town Grille closed August 2024 after 18 years. McLoone's Pier House (National Harbor, MD) closed during the pandemic — Fogo de Chão has the space now.
  • Kept open: Mi Pana is a new Latin spot at 2333 18th St NW in Adams Morgan that opened in September. It shares the building with Johnny Pistolas and Riff Raff Room. Bar Louie at Stonebridge in Woodbridge is open too — their website was just acting up.
  • Still checking: Half Note Lounge in Bowie and three TGI Fridays in PG County (District Heights, Greenbelt, Largo). Going to call them.
  • On hold: Right Proper Brewing's Eckington brewpub isn't open yet (aiming for later this year). We'll add it when they pour their first beer.
  • New Instagram: @rustyshappyhour. The old account was rustyshappyhourfinder — Meta's automation deleted it with no appeal. Follow the new one if you'd like to help us rebuild.

DC clears 97% identity-verified, Fairfax flips, 31 new neighborhood venues — 1,698 happy hours on the map

A heavy data night. DC just strict-flipped to 97.6% identity-verified — every venue you see on the DC pages has phone, address, and website confirmed against a Tier-1 source. Fairfax County hit 100% recovery on the night's Codex pass — 27 of 27 unverified venues identity-confirmed. Added 31 net-new DC venues across four neighborhood sweeps people had been asking about: BlackSalt and Cactus Cantina in Palisades / Cathedral Heights, plus Barcelona Wine Bar and Taco Bamba City Ridge; DCity Smokehouse Anacostia and Sandlot east-of-river; Krystal TexMex and Primrose and Uno Más in Brookland/Petworth/Park View; Ellē and La Tejana and Purple Patch in Mount Pleasant, plus Bacio Pizzeria, El Camino, and The Royal in Bloomingdale/LeDroit. Captured fresh happy-hour text on 13 NoVA venues (Lebanese Taverna Pentagon Row, Firebirds Woodbridge, Chili's Manassas, Old Towne Sports Pub, and more). Seven venues showed closure signals — Mi Pana, Carrabba's Manassas, Bar Louie Woodbridge, Sprig and Sprout, Reliable Tavern, Right Proper Eckington, Wicked Bloom — and rather than auto-deactivate any of them, they're queued for hardened dual-source verification. We don't delete venues on one signal, ever. Tonight's session: 76 venue graduations, 31 new venues, 13 happy-hour text captures, zero false deactivations.

  • DC strict-flips launch-ready: 97.6% identity-verified (up from 88.4%)
  • Fairfax County: 100% recovery on the 27-venue Codex pass — strongest suburban Tier-1 web coverage we've measured

Rusty's is on Facebook and Instagram now — come say hi

Two new ways to follow along. Facebook and Instagram are live, with the same hello-friend tone you'd get at the bar — venue spotlights, closures we catch (Rock Creek Tavern in Olney went dark in September, Bonefish Grill at Gainesville closed end of October), new openings making it onto the map (Capitano at The Wharf, Ox & Olive in Georgetown, Kathmandu Tapas on U Street), and the occasional behind-the-scenes note on how a 1,600-venue happy hour directory actually stays current. Footer and the Meet the Developer page both have icons now — the Instagram handle is rustyshappyhour (originally launched as rustyshappyhourfinder; that account was deleted by Meta automation on 2026-06-06 with no appeal path, and the new account opened the same day). Facebook is using the numeric URL until follower count crosses the threshold Facebook needs to unlock the custom username.

  • Facebook page live: facebook.com/profile.php?id=61590612241124 — custom /RustysHappyHourFinder URL pending Facebook's eligibility threshold (~25 followers)
  • Instagram: instagram.com/rustyshappyhour (originally rustyshappyhourfinder; Meta deleted that account 2026-06-06 — link updated to the live handle)
  • Social icons added to the site footer (every page) and the Meet the Developer page
  • Coming to social: venue spotlights, closures we catch before the aggregators, new openings, and notes on how the data stays fresh
  • If you spot bad happy hour info on the live site, you can flag it three ways now — Submit a Venue form, Message Board, or a DM on either social channel

Two new counties open — Anne Arundel and Prince William, plus 1,211 happy-hour windows

A big overnight data drop. Anne Arundel County opens with 77 venues across Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severna Park, Crofton, Odenton, Arnold, Edgewater, and Linthicum; Prince William County opens with 73 across Manassas, Manassas Park, Woodbridge, Dale City, Lake Ridge, Bristow, Gainesville, and Haymarket — 150 net-new venues in one evening. We also derived 1,211 structured happy-hour time windows from Tier 1 schedules across Maryland and Virginia, which makes the 'Happy Now' and day-of-week filters a lot more accurate across the metro. Two integrity notes too: Red Robin at Frederick's Francis Scott Key Mall is flagged for closure review — two outlets report it, but they share a single underlying source, and we don't deactivate on one — and we corrected five verified-tier rows where schedule prose had drifted into the time field.

  • Anne Arundel County opens: 77 venues across Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severna Park, Crofton, Odenton, Arnold, Edgewater, Linthicum (+ 12 Lane B happy-hour graduations pending apply)
  • Prince William County opens: 73 venues across Manassas, Manassas Park, Woodbridge, Dale City, Lake Ridge, Bristow, Gainesville, Haymarket
  • MD + VA happy-hour windows: +1,211 structured time-window rows from Tier 1 schedules — 'Happy Now' and day-of-week filters get much more accurate across the metro
  • Red Robin Frederick (Francis Scott Key Mall) flagged for closure review: Eater and MoCoShow both report a May 24 closure, but the two share a single underlying citation — per our editorial standard we don't deactivate without two independent confirmations, so it's queued for follow-up
  • Hygiene fix: corrected schedule-prose leaks in 5 verified-tier rows where text had drifted into the time field. Verified means verified.

Charles County goes live, the first two sponsors are verified, and the mobile polish lands

Charles County is live — 29 venues across Waldorf, La Plata, Indian Head, Bryans Road, Hughesville, and White Plains, with the ingest, map geocoding, and a happy-hour-text retry all run in one wave (4 verified, 26 mapped). Our first two sponsor venues, Firebirds and Beers & Cheers Too, had their happy-hour schedules verified against live sources plus a confirmation email from the venue's manager. A mobile batch landed too: the sponsor preview links work now, iOS Safari no longer zooms when you tap a form field, tap-targets meet Apple's 44px minimum, and accent text now clears WCAG AA contrast. Behind the scenes we added 270 structured DC time-windows for sharper 'Happy Now' filtering, and recovered 26 rows a database-transaction bug had left half-applied earlier in the day.

  • Charles County opens: 29 venues across Waldorf, La Plata, Indian Head, Bryans Road, Hughesville, White Plains — ingest + map geocoding + happy-hour-text retry in one wave; 4 verified, 26 mapped
  • Firebirds + Beers & Cheers Too verified: schedules corrected via live source check plus a confirmation email from the venue's general manager
  • Mobile UX (P1): sponsor preview links fixed, iOS Safari no longer auto-zooms on form focus, chip and button tap-targets meet Apple's 44px minimum, accent-color text bumped to WCAG AA
  • DC happy-hour windows: +270 structured time-window rows from Tier 1 schedules — sharper 'Happy Now' and day-of-week filtering
  • Region-aware launch-ready bar proposed for craft-beverage-heavy counties (Howard, Frederick); the universal 80% bar stays for dense urban regions
  • Data-integrity recovery: 26 rows from the morning's happy-hour-text wave were left half-applied by a transaction bug; an automated audit caught it and the salvage re-applied cleanly with proper transaction boundaries
  • Mobile polish (P2): every button now clears the 44px tap-target floor, the home location prompt and status lines dropped their emoji for the house style, and the venue 'drop a comment' jump no longer hides under the sticky header

Charles County opens — plus launch-bar recalibration, sponsor previews, and a mobile UX pass

A big multi-region day. Charles County goes on the map — 29 venues (21 new + 8 chain expansions) across Waldorf, La Plata, Indian Head, Bryans Road, and Hughesville, swept in a single session after an automated multi-attempt preflight stalled. Frederick and Loudoun got happy-hour-text fill-in passes — Loudoun gained 7.3 points (and one confirmed closure, City Tap House at One Loudoun), Frederick 5.5. We're proposing a region-aware launch bar: 80% happy-hour-text coverage for the dense urban counties (DC, Arlington, Fairfax, Montgomery, Loudoun) and 70% for the craft-beverage-heavy ones (Howard, Frederick), where breweries and wineries that don't run a formal happy hour make 80% the wrong target. That one's an operator decision, still pending. Also shipped: private sponsor preview pages, a mobile UX pass, six venue identity fixes, a 30-venue chain freshness audit that surfaced zero closures, and bundle-leak guardrails wired into the build.

  • Charles County opens: 29 venues (21 new + 8 chain expansions) across Waldorf, La Plata, Indian Head, Bryans Road, Hughesville — single-session sweep; 19 venues queued for happy-hour-text follow-up
  • Loudoun happy-hour-text pass: +7.3 points (1 confirmed closure — City Tap House at One Loudoun)
  • Frederick happy-hour-text pass: chain schedules filled on 7 venues (+5.5 points)
  • Region-aware launch bar proposed (operator decision pending): 80% for DC / Arlington / Fairfax / Montgomery / Loudoun, 70% for Howard / Frederick — craft-beverage-heavy counties with a documented data floor
  • Sponsor preview pages live at private, link-only URLs (not indexed): reach map, time-of-day chart, sample monthly report, competitor comparison, and pilot pricing card
  • Mobile UX fixes: iOS input auto-zoom, larger chip tap targets, text contrast, new /meet route; a sponsor-link bug fixed before any outreach went out
  • Identity resolutions: 6 venues (2 renamed or deactivated, 2 address corrections, 2 flagged for review)
  • Chain freshness audit: 30 venues, 0 closures, 5 happy-hour-drift cases addressed (2 TGI Fridays + 3 Bonefish)
  • Stranded-graduation sweep returned 0 rows (down from 6 on May 26) — research passes now update verification status correctly
  • Tooling: a bundle-leak guard now runs in a pre-commit hook + CI gate; an internal-only data field that had shipped into the client bundle was caught and removed within ten minutes. Analytics groundwork (a Cloudflare Worker + migration) is staged, not yet deployed.

Integrity sweep — some venues moving from 'Verified' to 'Source-seeded' as we re-audit older data

Today a user reported that Fontina Grille in King Farm had wrong happy hour data — our DB said all 7 days 4-7pm, but the venue's own bar menu says Mon-Thu 3-6pm. Investigated and found 7 more Rockville venues from the same May 10 ingest batch with similar issues: rows marked 'verified' even though the original research notes flagged unresolved source conflicts. All 8 are corrected or downgraded now. We're also running a DMV-wide chain freshness audit because two Ruby Tuesday locations (Gaithersburg + Wheaton) had been silently closed for 6-10 years but our DB still showed them open — Ruby Tuesday's corporate website kept the per-location pages live. Over the next few days you may see venues move from 'Verified' (gold badge) to 'Source-seeded' (silver badge) as we re-audit. The data isn't getting worse — it's getting more honest. If you spot any wrong info on the live site, please use the Submit a Venue form to flag it. You're our best source of ground truth.

  • Fontina Grille corrected: Mon-Thu 3-6pm (was incorrectly all-week 4-7pm)
  • 7 sister Rockville venues downgraded to 'Source-seeded' pending re-research
  • 2 Ruby Tuesday locations deactivated (Gaithersburg closed Mar 2020; Wheaton closed Aug 2016)
  • 21 Montgomery County chain venues freshness-audited, 12 confirmed operational + 7 queue flags raised
  • DMV-wide chain freshness audit pending: 96 venues across 8 regions, ~$5 in Codex calls
  • Methodology: dual-source HIGH-reliability requirement for any closure marking
  • If you see wrong info, hit the Submit a Venue form — operator notified directly

DC at 420 venues, 100% mapped, 89.5% verified — and the wordmark says 'Happy Hour' now

Single-day DC Full Audit: 242 → 420 active venues (+178, +73%). Five research passes (chain enumeration → secondary cluster → dense cluster including the 17th St NW gay nightlife strip → long-tail neighborhoods including Wards 7+8) plus two Pass 2.5 recovery loops (76%-84% recovery) plus a graduation sweep that promoted 119 unverified rows to source-seeded plus a Phase B-bis HH text refresh on the 49 venues that came out of the audit as identity-confirmed but text-skeleton. Phase B-bis recovered 24 of 49 (49% — above the 25-40% honest band for skeleton recovery), with the José Andrés / Penn Quarter chain pattern leading at 78% (ThinkFoodGroup brand pages + Resy menus deliver verbatim HH text reliably) and the hotel-bar pattern bringing up the rear at 11% (Doyle Bar, Blue Duck Lounge, Top of the Gate, Mercy Me, The Saga — hotels don't publish HH text on the main F&B landing page, which is the honest finding). The brand wordmark now spells out 'Happy Hour' instead of the 'HH' abbreviation everywhere it appears in the header, footer, and body copy. App is now v0.3.0 and shows the version + click-through to this changelog in the footer.

  • DC: 242 → 420 active venues in one day (+178, +73%)
  • DC at 100% mapped (the 5 lingering TIGER gaps got manual coords)
  • DC at 89.5% verified (376 of 420 graduated; 44 honest BS66 skeletons remain)
  • DC at 39 venues co-located in 17 groups (La Cosecha food hall, Navy Yard building, Watergate Hotel, etc.)
  • 4 F-multi parent renames: Salt Line / Andy's Pizza / Boqueria / Sala Thai → city-suffixed
  • Mai Thai Georgetown closed; Donsak Thai successor opening per PoPville
  • Mi Pana + Riff Raff Room opened at 2333 18th St NW Adams Morgan above Johnny Pistolas
  • Brand wordmark spelled out: 'Rusty's Happy Hour Finder' (full on desktop / footer; 'Rusty's Happy Hour' on mobile header)
  • App version surfaced in footer: v0.3.0 click-through to changelog

DMV at 1,241 venues — Loudoun closes, DC refreshes, MD graduates

Big push to land the DMV coverage. Loudoun County is now closed at 108 venues across 8 research passes — One Loudoun, Leesburg downtown + Village, Sterling/Cascades/Dulles 28, Lansdowne Resort, Brambleton, South Riding, Stone Ridge, Middleburg + Salamander Resort, Purcellville + western Loudoun breweries. Greenfield to launch-ready in a single day. After Loudoun we ran a DMV-wide verification graduation pass that promoted 108 Maryland rows from unverified to source-seeded. Then a DC refresh sweep added 16 more DC venues — gap-fill in Petworth, Brookland, Tenleytown, Union Market, plus Uchi DC opening in Dupont Circle. New SOURCES.md reference doc captures the source-tier canon (Tier 1-4 + cardinality contract + Bob's Shanghai 66 rule + closure source ranking). One closure surfaced from user feedback: Chili's Gaithersburg is gone — chilis.com kept the URL live months after the venue closed, so it slipped through the original MoCo chain sweep. Pattern C applied, 13 similar at-risk rows queued for follow-up audit.

  • Loudoun County CLOSED: 108 venues across 8 passes, 65.7% launch-ready posture
  • DMV-wide Pass 5 graduation: 108 MD rows unverified → source_seeded
  • DC Refresh: 16 new venues (Petworth, Brookland, Tenleytown, Union Market, Uchi DC)
  • Chili's Gaithersburg deactivated (chain-URL-only-sourcing lesson)
  • SOURCES.md added as canonical source-tier reference
  • DMV total: 1,241 published venues across DC + MD + VA
  • Launch-ready: DC 100% / MD 70.3% / VA 79.1% / DMV 78.4%

Fairfax

Fairfax County done

Closed Fairfax County coverage. 154 venues across the full 5-pass methodology: chain enumeration → dense-core indie sweep (Mosaic, Fair Oaks, Reston Town Center, Old Town Fairfax) → secondary clusters (Springfield, Chantilly, Burke, Herndon, Falls Church side) → long-tail (Clifton heritage town, Mount Vernon Inn at the Estate, Kingstowne, Lorton, the Route 1 corridor). 8 research passes total with 4 Pass 2.5 recovery applications. The Pass 4.5 long-tail recovery hit 72.7% — the best long-tail bounce-back we've recorded. Tysons (the Fairfax workstream's commercial powerhouse) holds steady from prior work. Bonus: surfaced a bunch of pre-existing closures (Greene Turtle Kingstowne, Tavern at Great Falls, several Chuy's branches in mass-closure mode).

  • Fairfax County: 154 venues across 8 research passes
  • Mosaic + Reston Town Center + Old Town Fairfax: dense-core indie density
  • USPS-Alexandria Fairfax-jurisdiction handled: 22306, 22308, 22309, 22315
  • Pass 2.5 canon range across Fairfax 4 apps: 12.5%-72.7%
  • Heritage spots picked up: Mount Vernon Inn (no estate admission required), Clifton's Trummer's + Trattoria Villagio

Arlington

Arlington County done — first VA county launch-ready

Closed Arlington County at 131 venues. Crystal City, Pentagon City + Pentagon Row, Clarendon, Ballston, Rosslyn, Courthouse, Shirlington, Columbia Pike, Westover. 88.5% launch-ready — the highest county graduation rate in the DMV so far (Arlington's urban-walkable + Tier-1-publishing-culture geography helps). 5 research passes plus the Pass 5 cleanup pattern that became canonical for every county we close from here forward. First VA county over the launch-ready line.

  • Arlington County: 131 venues, 88.5% launch-ready posture
  • Crystal City + Pentagon Row + Clarendon: top sub-clusters
  • Pass 5 cleanup methodology canonized in CLAUDE.md
  • F-multi rename pattern locked in (Kusshi DB-dupe fix)

HoCo

Howard County done

Closed out Howard County coverage. Columbia, Ellicott City, Elkridge, Clarksville, Fulton, Maple Lawn, Mount Airy (HoCo side), and the smaller towns. The 5-pass research methodology held: chain enumeration, then deep dives by sub-cluster, then long-tail recovery for the spots that need a deeper source hunt to get past the cardinality contract. Notable additions: 5485 Restaurant & Bar (DoubleTree Columbia), Trifecto Bar (Clarksville Commons), the Frisco Taphouse / Reckless Shepherd co-located pair in Columbia, the Mount Airy farm-winery cluster (Red Shedman + Linganore).

  • Howard County: 5 research passes complete
  • Columbia + Ellicott City + Elkridge as the dense core
  • Mount Airy wine country cluster: Black Ankle, Linganore, Loew, Milkhouse, Frey's, Red Shedman (split between HoCo + Frederick County sides)
  • Co-location groups confirmed: Frisco Taphouse + Reckless Shepherd Brewery (Columbia)

Airy's wine country is in there too (Black Ankle, Linganore, Loew, Milkhouse, Frey's, Red Shedman). 99% mapped, 56% with happy-hour times, the rest say "needs verification" with a comment box so you can fill in what you know.
